Conservation Detection Dog Benefits

Numerous studies have established dogs’ proficiency at locating an extremely wide range of scents.

  • Trained dogs can significantly reduce the amount of time spent searching for a target, or species.
  • Scent-detection dogs make a significant contribution to the conservation programs of many threatened species.
  • Research has documented that dogs can distinguish odors of different species of animals and their sign.
  • Detector dog programs can help to save costs, are attractive to potential funding sources and are a wise choice for educating the public, and are a proven non-invasive method for identifying targeted species in their natural habitat.
  • Dogs provide a progressive tool to conservation researchers and/or private organizations.
